S03E14: Dr Chris Pateman-Jones – The Key to Equitable EV Charging with Connected Kerb

About the episode:

Dr Chris Pateman-Jones, CEO of Connected Kerb, discusses the company’s efforts to build one of the fastest-growing public EV charging networks in the UK. Connected Kerb focuses on making charging infrastructure equitable, reliable, and accessible, particularly for drivers without home charging. Chris highlights challenges like land access, grid constraints, and government policy, and shares how AI and modular designs are shaping the future of EV charging.

14 May 2025: UPDATE SINCE RECORDING – We recorded this episode on 12 March 2025, as the ZEV Mandate consultation launched by the Labour government last year was still underway. You will hear Dr Pateman-Jones and myself chatting, and, given it hadn’t happened yet, speculating, about the forthcoming changes. The outcome of the Government response broadly aligned with the direction of maintaining ZEV targets that Dr Pateman-Jones suggests in the episode. Now it’s on to the next phase and, having spoken with Dr Pateman-Jones, I can confirm his hope is that the promised incentives package to help adoption will be forthcoming. You can read the full outcome of the ZEV Mandate consultation on the UK Government website, here: https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/phasing-out-sales-of-new-petrol-and-diesel-cars-from-2030-and-supporting-the-zev-transition/outcome/phasing-out-sales-of-new-petrol-and-diesel-cars-from-2030-and-supporting-the-zev-transition-summary-of-responses-and-joint-government-response
The time codes for the discussion are from 13:30 to ~17:00 in the recording.
